Bellevue was founded in 1869 by a man named William Meydenbauer. Bellevue
remained a quiet settlement for much of its history, until the Lake Washington
Floating Bridge connected it with nearby Seattle in 1940. The completion
of Bellevue Square in 1946—which is today one of the largest shopping
centers in the Northwest—was indicative of Bellevue's rapid growth.
Today, Bellevue is home to roughly 125,000 people, and more than 3.6 million
people live in the greater Seattle area. Bellevue is a wealthy community
that is excellent for commerce—in fact, Bellevue was relatively
unaffected by the financial crisis of 2007 and 2008.
