Tips for Keeping Your White Kitchen Clean

White kitchens are always in style. They’re bright and classic and can be incorporated into a wide range of décor preferences. The only downside to building your kitchen design around the color white is that if your kitchen isn’t clean, it will show. Fortunately, you don’t have to make cleaning your kitchen in Seattle a full-time job if you choose white cabinets, appliances, and surfaces. Simply follow these tips to keep your white kitchen looking clean and bright.

Consider Your Window Treatments

One of the biggest risks to white kitchen cabinets is excessive sun exposure. If your cabinets are in direct sunlight, they can turn yellow over time, and will need to be replaced or repainted. If your cabinets are exposed to the sun, drapes, shades, and sun-blocking window films can help to protect your investment and prevent fading of your crisp, white surfaces.

Use Your Extractor Fan

Build-up on your cabinets from cooking will also make them look yellow, and the more build-up that accumulates, the more difficult it is to clean. Reduce the amount of build-up on your cabinets and other surfaces by using your extractor fan or range hood every time you cook. Although this won’t stop all build-up, it will reduce the amount that is created during each cooking session. When you clean up after meals, make wiping down your cabinets part of your routine. Remember to use a mild cleaners and a soft cloth and to stay away from abrasive substances that could cause scratches and make the paint peel.

Deep Clean Once Monthly

In addition to daily cleaning, deep clean your white surfaces once per month. If your surfaces have become yellowed, wipe them down with a mixture of two parts water to one part vinegar, mixed with a tablespoon of baking soda. This will brighten the surfaces and get rid of the yellow tone. If grease has built up, rinse your surfaces with a mix of warm water and dish soap. Dish soap contains ingredients that break down grease without being abrasive.
